For your pool chlorine dispensing you can use a floating swimming pool chemical dispenser. These are called floaters. They have a polyethylene construction and are impervious to most chemicals. Each have a twist lock cap and adjustable chlorination control ring that holds six 3″ tablets or 3 pounds of 1″ tablets. Rainbow swimming pool chlorinators are a good buy because they need no special venting and have completely enclosed system. The in line feeders 320 series offer permanent installation in return line of new or existing pools or spas. You may want to get the test kits and test strips and thermometers from them as well.

Keeping you water fresh, and ready for a dip anytime you want, is a matter of monitoring the levels of a few things. Get yourself a digital pool chlorine tester. There are some neat ones available like the AquaChek Trutest. This will test for the required free swimming pool chlorine, Bromine, PH, and alkalinity. It will give totals on all the chlorine, including what has been used for contaminants. If you know what to watch for, it is easy to know how to adjust it. These test strips are great for reading all the levels in your pool. It will cost around $39.95, and the strips are only around $28.00. Knowing how much chlorine for swimming pools is a matter of the size of your pool, and the frequent uses it gets. Sometimes it will require extra for a shock treatment.

Yes, there is a minimum that you can get away with to keep your pool in tip-top shape, if you keep an eye on these and fix anything that comes up then you will help to prolong the life of your pool:

Fabric check – whatever type of pool you have you need to make sure that it has no cracks in it or no major damage in the case of fiberglass. If you do spot any damage then you need to repair it immediately to stop it getting worse or get a specialist in to do so. You will need to clean the fabric surface and any decking that you have once a week.

Pump, motor, filter – check to make sure all seals are intact, replace as necessary. Make sure nothing is clogging up the impeller, if it is clear it out. Replace any products required by your filtration system.

Water – to maintain the water first you need to make sure that there is no debris in it. You should take 10 minutes or so a day to do this. Secondly, you will need a water testing kit to check the chemical balance of the water for: chlorine/bromine, pH, acid & base demand, total alkalinity, calcium hardness and cyanuric acid. Once you have tested the water you will need to check the results against the kits test cards, so that you can then take any appropriate action.

It does happen on occasion though to even the most scrupulous people luckily the issue is simple to deal with. The first way is that you could do preventative dosing or you could use pool algaecides only when you get a bloom in your pool. Either method is valid although I like as much pool uptime as possible during the season so I regularly dose my pool every other week.

Having a cloudy pool or a pool profuse with blooms can be very frustrating especially if you use your pool a lot recreationally. Using an Algaecide can bring relief to algae/cloudy pool issues within 24 hours of use. They are amazing products that come in various varieties that I will discuss further in a later article.

Essentially a pool clarifier is used to clean you pool, it does not need to be used as a dose to the pool on a regular basis, although that is an option that is open to you of course if you so wish. The only time that I would suggest dosing regularly with the clarifier is if the cloudiness keeps returning, this could be caused by a build-up of suntan oils, lotions and/or dirt in the water, dosing regularly with a clarifier will solve this.

Pool clarifiers are generally used when your pool becomes cloudy which could be caused by any number of things such as bacteria , viruses or minute debris. Adding the clarifier will help eradicate these by forming them into larger particles which are more easily filtered out of your pool. The use of a clarifier should not interfere with the water chemistry of your pool but you should check the manufacturers guidelines before purchasing.

In my opinion as you have come this far and made a huge investment in installing a swimming pool or moving into a house that already has one that you really need to make sure that you do everything in your power to prolong the life of your pool and keep it useable.

This means that you will use pool water test kits that will test for chlorine/bromine, pH, acid & base demand, total alkalinity, calcium hardness and cyanuric acid (stabilizer). You may even want to additionally test for copper if you are using copper algaecide, an ionizer or skimmer pills.

So you only really have a choice between two types of water test kit do you go digital or not?
Digital kits are more accurate and give you a reading so that you do not have to interpret your results against a card. If you want to make your life easier in the long run then it is a no brainer you go for a digital water test kit that tests for the above.

Chlorine is not a particularly nice substance to handle, health and safety precautions need to be taken when using it. A chlorine generator is great because it means that you are unlikely to need to store, handle, use or purchase additional quantities of chlorine.

Chlorine generators for a pool are actually chlorine making machines they use salt to make chlorine by chemical reaction. This process is cycled so that you do not have to add salt other than occasional top ups. There are a whole host of different types of chlorine generator I have even heard of people making their own but I would not suggest that you take that route unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Depending on the type of chlorine generator you go for they can be very economical to run and they can also be safer and more ecologically friendly as there is no handling, transporting and storing factory-produced chlorine, no harsh shocking of your pool required and there are also no caustic or harmful by-products.

Spring is upon you and you are itching to get the pool out of its winterized state but the very thought of the effort that is going to be needed to get it up and running again is forestalling you springing action. Actually, there is a product out there that will guide you into getting things up and running again in no time, the answer to your problems is a pool start-up kit.

The kits come with easy step by step instructions telling you exactly which order to do everything in . They come in various grades depending on the size of your pool for example up to 7,500 gallons, up to 15,000 gallons and so on. Good quality kits will all come with the following components: Rust and scale preventer, non-metallic pool algaecides, chlorine shock, clarifier and hopefully a solution to help with lotions and oils that get dispersed in the water.

People dream about having a pool in their backyard and once you have one it is all you dreamed and more!

The only downside to having a pool is that amount that you get charged for having it maintained. Pool maintenance is something that you can quite easily carry out yourself once you know how. It seems very complicated to start with but once you have your routine set it is as easy as 1-2-3.

see: Pool algaecides

It is very likely that having your pool installed was quite a big purchase or if the pool came with the house then there was a premium attached for the pool. Without being properly maintained pools can deteriorate to such a state that they are merely a hole in the ground and it would cost you more to get it repaired than to have a whole new one installed.

So yes it is in your best interest to make sure that you keep you pool properly maintained by carrying out regularly scheduled maintenance.

There are times when we all complain about the stench of chlorine and the fact that it is making our eyes, nose and throat red and sore. We tend to state that there is too much chlorine in the water but this is not in fact the case. You do not notice this smell when you have you undiluted chlorine open do you? The answer to that is no because it is a nice fresh smell.
The irritation and smell from the pool is in fact a chemical reaction between the chlorine and the contaminants in the pool from swimming and such.

You therefore need to sanitize the pool by either using a chlorine shock or a non-chlorine shock treatment. In effect, you add extra chlorine or another chemical because the current level of chlorine has become ineffective has been overwhelmed by contaminants and needs some additional help. If you are maintaining your pool properly, you should only have to do this twice a year and possibly if you go away and leave the pool maintenance undone for a while.
